that girl.

I'm the girl who almost always has a smile on her face. The girl who would rather talk to a stranger than wait for a familiar face. I'm the one who breaks silence with little noises, quips, comments, humming melodies or song lyrics.

I'm the girl who enjoys organizing & keeping things neat & tidy. The girl eager to make anything look nice, because i love decorating & making things look aesthetically pleasing. I'm the one who rushes around to clean my place before you arrive so it looks awesome, or at a minimum slightly better than before you arrived.

I'm the girl who gets along with a lot of dudes. The girl who grew up very close to her brother, who in turn, taught her the true essence of being a guy - how to throw a spiral, be crude, laugh at farts, not take everything so serious, have a decent tolerance for pain, how to excel at burping contests, kick ass at Super Mario Bros & how to rip apart someone with words if necessary. I'm the one that won't think twice to hit a dude in the face if he's askin' for it. I'm also the girl who got her ass kicked in the eighth grade by a dude for similar reasons.

I'm the girl who loves to get dressed everyday, who loves trying on many different styles & looks for the absolute fun of it. The girl who believes in spite of her full closet & dresses that occasionally she has absolutely nothing to wear. The one who once upon a time logged her outfits every single day, and doesn't believe in paying full price, unless it's a special circumstance.

I'm the girl who throughly enjoys music but can't play a single instrument or sing very well. The girl who loves going to shows so she can feel the music move her & will happily withstand bruises to fight for her place in the crowd. I'm the one who will get drunk enough to perform karaoke, and sometimes forget the words.

I'm the girl who thrives on the thrill of surprises & secret adventures however minute they may seem. The girl who likes to jump in the car without an idea where shes headed. The one who loves to sing at the top of her lungs in her convertible & pays no mind to whoever may or may not be spectating.

I'm the girl who loves to be creative. The girl who holds a high standard to herself & is her own worst critique. The one who likes to paint, cook, color, bake, & create because it generates such a pleasant feeling.

I'm the girl who takes pride in being described as "different" and unique. The one who embraces her freckled pale skin & red hair, after many years of being teased because of it. The one who would rather wear something completely off the wall than completely boring.

I'm the girl who loves animals & talks to them with a true inner feeling that they quite possibly & probably understand everything. The girl who spoils her adorable little dog so rotten that she is made fun of. & also the one who dresses said dog in miniature costumes & outfits for holidays & events.

I'm the girl who fixes her hair & makeup just so everyday in an attempt to look her best each day. The girl who will gladly take the pain of uncomfortable heels for the desired look they create. The one who loves herself, but can't shake feeling a little insecure without mascara on.

I'm the girl who chooses a bottle of wine based on the art on the label or the creativity behind the name. I'm the girl who is always surprised when she is not carded for being under 21 & secretly upset. The one who throws a fit when she chips her freshly painted nail polish because she lacks the patience it demands to fully dry.

I'm the girl who loves fully. The girl who tries to be a good person & good listener & loves making others laugh. The one who wants to make everyone feel special & wanted & awesome in their own little way.

I'm the girl who hates confrontation at times, but wears her feelings on her sleeve. The girl who hates to cry in public, but when prompted usually can't stop big tears from welling in her eyes & rolling down her cheeks. I'm the one who is stubborn, forgives... but never forgets.

I'm the girl who hates waiting for things, who gets an idea in her head & becomes completely & utterly obsessed with it. The girl whose memory will stop you in your tracks because i can remember who took my brothers brontosaurus out of the sandbox in kindergarten & tried to steal it. The one who remembers everyone's name.

I'm the girl who dreams with intense clarity. The girl who will wake up scared, surprised, confused, excited, let down, upset, etc because reality hasn't truly sunk in yet. The one who believes her dreams elude to inner thoughts & foreshadow future events.

I'm the girl who strongly believes she is an excellent judge of character. The girl who hopes you can see right through her as well & completely understand where she is coming from. I'm the one who can't shake certain feelings & is easily caught in a lie.

I'm the girl who believes in love despite all her skepticisms about life. The girl who craves that feeling of waking up every morning next to her other half (puzzle piece, if you will). The one who believes it can & does work for those who are just lucky enough to find one another.

I'm the girl who believes everything does happen for a reason. And that reason is life. Sometimes it's completely twisted, but sometimes serendipity occurs... & this girl believes that's enough to make this life a beautiful mishmash.

i'm a self proclaimed lover of many genres of music. I'm all about brilliantly diverse playlists & love to hear the randomness streaming out my iPod when its busy shufflin'. Though typically i don't listen to much country music, every once in a blue moon a certain country twang will have me hooked. Webular browsing through recent new releases led me to Justin Townes Earle... i could listen to his country all day. i just love this description of him :

"Justin Townes Earle is an anomaly. He’s tall as the day is long, all angles and elbows and a hard stare, both welcoming and deadly serious."

He's been serenading me for almost an hour straight. His third album Harlem River Blues came out earlier this month & there's this amazing simplicity to it - its so raw. His sound is so refreshing, its not muddled down with over production, its noteworthy. Completely. He is so real, he's left me literally hanging on every lyric. My heart goes out to him, a week ago he decided to postpone his US & UK tour to check into rehab. Hope for the best, this dude is seriously talented & it always makes me smile to hear greatness come out of someone from my generation ~ what up 80's born baby!

siete. Christian Ponder.

birthday button

i can hardly believe my sweetest little Button is TWO ♥
heyyyy happy birthday weenie weenie weenie!!
There is no love quite like that of the love that comes from a dog, especially an 8 inch tall weenie dog named Button. Since she appeared in my life there has been so much happiness, laughter & comfort. I first laid eyes on her i knew she belonged to me. i felt an instant connection & love for her that has only grown more each passing day.

ive completely spoiled her rotten, so it was only fitting to throw her a little bday bash. "check me out i'm two & i party like a rockstar with my eyes closed!!"

i love you, button. happy birthday.

currently dreaming of...

ohhhh Austin, a city my eyes have yet to meet that is bangin with culture!! i have been dreaming about it for sometime & it has turned into a mini obsession... here's a few reasons Austin seems so very appealing & awesomely weird to me. i'm desperate to take a trip out there (& maybe stay for awhile:)

homes like this exist~

this one is called Casa Neverlandia & is completely eco friendly & adorable!

music!! Austin is the live music capital of the world.... hello 200 venues! not to mention SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST!

March of next year i'll be there or ultimately i'll be a giant square.... as i am really dying to attend the SXSW festival... 3/11 will be their 25th anniversary & i just so happen to find it incredibly appropriate that my eyes & ears will experience something incredibly amazing after all, they've been seein' & hearin' my surroundings for twenty five years as well :D

cool weird shit like the cathedral of junk~
est. in 1988 Vince Hanneman has been collecting & contributing to his very own clubhouse of coolness if you will. One mans trash is literally another mans treasure... it houses everything from lawn mower parts, to 8 track records, car bumpers, kitchen utensils, a pyramid of tv's & anything you can imagine.

i really want to explore the art on 5th gallery....the largest contemporary art museum in Austin, voted best gallery twice & houses the most Dr. Suess art anywhere ~ love that!

OKAY Austin, your boutiques are allegedly amazing, your food apparently is mouth watering... seriously i read that "life changing queso" exists inside of you, the ever so lovely capital of Texas. You have artistically painted cars cruising your streets, bad ass roller girls, devil worshiping cheerleaders, & lawns that appear on street corners looking like this~
.
my heart is melting at the thought of meeting you, a city with a slogan "Keep Austin Weird". Sweet Austin, i'm coming for you... & until then, i'm dreaming of you.

blognation !! Question~ have you ever enjoyed a husband & wife front duo as much as Arcade Fire? These snazzy Canadians just released another album in August so appropriately titled (considering their marital status) 'The Suburbs'. Canadian Indie Rock at its finest. I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but have watched numerous live performances of them via the fabulous world wide web. News flash Prince ---- the internet isn't quite deceased yet. They have an assload of performers that prance around with tambourines & are incredibly enthusiastic. I enjoy that. WOO Canada! Please let your ears enjoy "City with No Children"

Speaking of crazy tambourine enthusiasts... i happened to attend my lovely friends The Dirty GetCaughts show Thursday night, they played out at the beach with a band name Hey Danger, could be Hello Danger --- at the moment my memory is unsure, anyway this dude was Richard Simmons style going to town on a tambourine & a cowbell. If you ever happen to see one of the two a fore mentioned band names on a flyer---- he might be the sole reason you attend.

Alright, i was lucky enough to score sneak preview tickets to see 'The Town' starring Ben Affleck tonight. I'm crossing my fingers its awesome.

realization

there comes a time when you must separate the bullshit from the truth. At times i struggle with the reality of a situation vs. the illusion of how it could be. I suppose there is this little girl inside of me that wants everything to be sweet & lovely & when it's not, it can be easy to ignore at times.... but the truth always creeps in. & that's really a positive.

If you're not happy with someone or something, change it. life is too short, & we don't all get second chances. so smile & embrace the beauty of everyday!!

fa~la~la family

This weekend my amazing Grandparents came down to visit from the majestic hills of Virginia with my Aunt & Uncle. My whole life i have always been separated by states or the Atlantic Ocean from my extended family. I feel short-changed at times that i haven't had the quality time over the years to really get to grow & learn from my sweet family. My dad was the oldest son & middle child in a family of seven, they grew up on a farm & lived a life that from time to time i can't truly even wrap my head around because its so very different than the way i was brought up.

circa 1963

my daddy is perched on the right, but please note how beautiful my darling Grandmother is sitting atop the fence in her dress & heels. i just love her.

She told me all about the day she was married (sixty years ago!!), all the beautiful quilts she made & funny stories about life as a Mom, Wife & Grandmother over the years. Seriously, i'll be lucky if i'm half the woman she is when i'm her age ♥ & although my Grandpa's mind is weakening some, & he now cannot remember my name, he still held my hand, told me i was beautiful, knew i was his granddaughter & made me laugh so much. They are incredibly interesting & sweet & simple & optimistic & i cannot say enough wonderful things about them both.

My grandparents saw the ocean for the first time in their lives this weekend. how powerful is that?

there's two of us in here ♥
& i love falling in love with music in glorious movies.
so friends, The Boxer Rebellion ~ a brilliant band based out of London did a lovely little diddy called 'If You Run' for the flick 'Going The Distance' starring Drew Barrymore & Justin Long, among others (hello Jim Gaffigan!). I just so happened to be lucky enough to obtain free sneak preview tickets to see this gem of a film eleven days ago. I loved it, i HIGHLY recommend it for its comedic value, cuteness factor, realness & solid soundtrack. TBR play a special role in Drew & Justin's onscreen (perhaps offscreen as well?) relationship together... this is a studio live version of the song in the movie...

here's a bit more info on the band ~ these fellas came up big all on their own. four years after they independently released EXITS a "critically-acclaimed debut alt-rock phenomenon" they then self-released UNION digitally while still working their day jobs!! TBR landed the first global iTunes Single of the Week, & lead track ‘Evacuate’ generated a staggering 560,000 free downloads, propelling UNION to No. 1 on the iTunes Alt. Album Chart; Top 5 iTunes US and UK Albums; and 82 on the Billboard 200 in its first week! By the end of 2009, iTunes hailed UNION their ‘Alternative Album of the Year.’ All the while the band were, and remain, independent and ‘unsigned’. hello awesome??? :D

Also, i just want to add how badly i'm craving a bow tie after seeing how absolutely adorable Drew looks in one...

a little hiatus

dear blogosphere,
i promise i haven't disappeared, though it may have appeared that way due to the lack of posts for nearly a week straight! im not dead, my heart is beating furiously & i have just been busy with life & distant from the interwebs. So, this is me officially making a self note to update. i love holiday weekends!
