betty & johnny forever ♥

This year we stepped back in time to an era where my mista can fittingly refer to me as toots.

say hello to betty & johnny!

not gonna lie, i really, really loved putting on my blonde wig & this get up.... even more so, i adored getting Jake's costume ready & enjoyed every minute surrounded by him in character as Johnny at the 2011 Hocus Pocus Party.

my friends looked pretty damn awesome too!

I can't help but love Halloween... it brings back the happiest memories as a child, teen & adult. I love dressing up, getting into character & being someone else for a night.

I even went to work in this getup, although slightly altered with black leggings & wedges, it was pretty outstanding. Did i mention i was the only one in costume? Hah, Oh & the children i passed out candy to in the evening too really appreciated my efforts. I hooked up some seventh grade girls with a little history lesson on the ladies who went to work during WWII... they didn't know a thing about Rosie the Riveter, but we're really excited to hear about it. I obliged... & felt pretty great about it.

a date with death cab

Friday night. I finally was graced with the opportunity to have my ears absorb each and every glorious note live from the wondrous fingertips and vocal chords of none other than Ben Gibbard. In a word - amazing. For you see, my girl Caitlin bought us tickets to see one of my (our) favorite bands, Death Cab for Cutie.

Doesn't their name look absolutely breath taking in bright lights!?

In 2005, i met Caitlin - we spent a week vacationing together, along with six others inside an incredible beach house situated on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We were instantly friends over mondo shots, beach walks, outdoor showers, drenga, dance marathons / singalongs. The following year we were living together attending Florida State University. It was a whirlwind & the beginning of a great friendship... one thing we both had in common was an undeniable love for the lyrical sounds and stylings of death cab.

We were both elated upon hearing that DCFC would be playing in Florida, & for my birthday she surprised me with tickets for us! I arranged for a driver to chauffeur us to & from downtown while we drank, sang, danced & stood in utter awe of Death Cab.

just as you might have imagined, it was incredible!

cheers to an incredible evening with one of my very best friends. It was so very special, thank you Death Cab for the serenades... & thank you Cait, for making it possible!

& thank you Cait, for making it possible!!

penny for your thoughts

Maybe its because i love innovative ideas, or the luster of a bright & shiny new penny... or maybe it's an appreciation that came with nineteen months in the banking industry, or that i now work in the recycling industry & spend a lot of time around copper... either way this ridiculously creative floor is all kinds of awesome:

The shoe shop, Revolver placed along an ordinary street in an ordinary Indiana town is anything but ordinary. Pennies rained among the skies littering their ridiculously awesome store with a bed of copper & zinc left to dance on with your new kicks. I think i'd go for a pair of PF Flyers... if for nothing more than a simple shout-out to Smalls & Benny Rodriquez.

Its kind of amazing & at $1.44 a square foot it's something i would definitely consider for my own dream boutique one day. Hello dreamy Mr. Lincoln...

i'm thinkin you'd look mighty fine beneath my feet.

Sweet Octobre

you've been a lovely month thus far, & thinking back ... i feel almost guilty for not greeting you with sparklers & giant smiles.

For sweet October, you have already brought some serious wonderfulness into my life:

  • A date downtown to see one of my absolute favorite bands, death cab for cutie with my dear Caitlin. [pics to follow shortly.]
  • An afternoon adventure to Orlando to watch college football during a torrential downpour, it sounds pretty terrible, but i actually really enjoyed it.
  • A lovely wedding where my tear filled eyes watched as my old friend promised her life to her husband. It was beautiful, & the bouquet literally fell into my arms, resulting in a very entertaining dance once my love snatched the garter.
  • The realization that Netflix is now streaming The Wonder Years, thus resulting in an excessive amount of the Arnolds, Paul Pfeiffer, & Winnie Cooper in my living room. It's kind of amazing.
  • A shabby new look to my patio, my mista spent a few hours hanging pretty lights, wind chimes, & paintings to surround my table & chairs... I've already made & enjoyed two special meals on it. love it.
  • Fall festivals, Halloween planning, hang time with JT$, crafting, a serious score on a vintage typewriter whilst treasure hunting....
i kind of love you beautiful October. I'm more than a little excited for pumpkin carvings, Caitlin's Hocus Pocus Party, pumpkin pies, & spiced lattes.

hey Martha, i hear you're a raging biatch --- but, this pic makes me swoon,

Happy Haunting!!

Sketchy scarves

Once upon a sunny afternoon, my charming beau escorted me to a little shop where i fell in love with a vintage Oscar de la Renta scarf, that just so happened to be half price.

Delighted, I wore it to work one Friday when i was feeling extra bright & cheery. Immediately i was swarmed with all sorts of comparisons to Aunt Jemima. Yes, you're familiar with her sassy syrup dressing your pancakes & waffles on Sunday mornings... Not exactly the look i was hoping to achieve, but that didn't tarnish my love for the scarf or my styling of it.

Upon sharing my pic via a certain social networking site, a friend of mine was left inspired... & took to his pen and paper:

an illustration was born.

it definitely made my day! So, thanks Dave... you're awesome.
